The winners of the 2013 NCWE Awards were selected by our impartial panel of judges:

  • Alison Clark, Director, National Association of Student Employment Services (NASES)
  • Virginia Goodwill, Industrial Placements Officer, University of Brighton
  • Neil Malone, Operations Manager, Jagex
  • Tom Campbell, former placement student from Liverpool John Moores University

With a record-breaking number of entries and only 13 categories, this was no easy task as the standard of entries continues to be extremely high.

As always, entries were anonymised to ensure all decisions were impartial.

How the NCWE Awards were judged

When deciding this year’s award-winners, the judges were looking for commitment and implementation of good practice. Thus they were looking for those employers who put time and effort into helping students and graduates develop employability skills, as well as recognising that employing a student or intern could have discernible benefits to their business. With the above in mind shortlisted organisations were judged on the following criteria:

Goals and objectives

  • Variety of skills acquired as a result of the experience.
  • The impact/business benefits to the company resulting from the placement or internship.

Support, assessment and feedback

  • Consider the level and frequency of the organisation's assessment, monitoring and feedback mechanisms.
  • How is the student or intern's feedback used to inform future development of their placement or internship scheme?

General work experience overview

  • What makes the placement or internship exceptional and why?
